Kathryn W Wages Hornsby

Mrs. Katheryn Wages Hornsby was born March 17, 1918 in Richland, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Grafton Seth Wages, Jr and Cora Bell Meetze Wages.

1920 Census Information:

Grafton Wages, Jr  (38) was the head of household, residing in the home was his wife;  Carrie B Wages (32) and daughters; Lyda B Wages (5), Pearle E Wages (3)  and Catherine W Wages (2) and their servant, Joe Mikley (13). The family rented a home in Shady Grove, Richland, South Carolina. Both Grafton and Cora reported they could read and write.  Grafton was a carpenter of general building.

1930 Census Information:

Grafton Wages (29) was the head of household, residing in the home was his wife;  Carrie Wages (26) and daughters; Pearl E Wages(14)  and Catherine Wages (12) Thelma Wages (10). The family owned a farm home in Shady Grove, Richland, South Carolina. Both Grafton and Cora reported they could read and write and were married about 1906.  Grafton was a farmer.

Kathryn Wages married Otto Ernest Hornsby, Sr.

1940 Census Information:

In 1940, Otto Hornsby with wife; Kathryn Wages Hornsby, and sons; Donald Hornsby and Ernest Hornsby rented a farm house for a reported $1.00 per month, in Wateree where Otto farmed and worked for the Works Progress Administration as a laborer on road construction.  Catherine kept house and raised, Donald and Ernest.

1942

Otto Hornsby and Catherine Wages are mentioned in the death certificate of their son, Kenneth Hornsby.

1985

Kathryn Wages Hornsby, 67, wife of Otto E. Hornsby, of 316 Rabon Road passed away Saturday, November 9, 1985. Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, November 11, 1985 at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church conducted by the Rev. Jimmy O. Floyd. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. 

Pallbearers were Curtis Sircy, Tommy Hooks, Billy Branham, Willard Branham, Gene Rabon and Otto Jacobs.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Martin, Tim Canady, and Randolph Dinkins.

Survivors were her husband; sons, Donald W Hornsby and Steve M Hornsby of Charleston and Rodney E. Hornsby and Clark W Hornsby of Columbia; sisters, Mrs. Pearl Branham of Elgin and Miss Thelma Wages of Columbia; and grandchildren.
