More than 300 drivers are expected at the Blaney Drag Strip on July 21 and 22 for a NHRA Winston World Championship Series event.
There will be racing in all eight National Hot Rod Association sportsman categories as well as an eight Car Qualified Pro Stock field.
“Pro Stock racing is a real favorite among our fans, and they’ll see some extremely close racing,” says track owner Johnny Dowey. “We are expecting more than 16 entries trying for a spoint an eight-car field, so the qualifying alone would be something else to watch. “And the sportsman racing should be as good, because it is getting late in the NHRA Southeast Division season and drivers are looking for points for the division championship titles.”
Top Pro Stock contenders expected will include Roy Hill of Sophia, N. C. in a Mercury Capri, Joe Lepone of Lauderhill, Fla., in a Pontiac Trans Am, Reid Whisnant of Hapeville, Ga., Dodge Daytona Charger, and Sam Carroll of Durham, N. C., in a Chevy Camaro.
