Leanna Prudie Sowell Phillips

Leanna “Prudie” Sowell Phillips was born December 25, 1895, the daughter of Sampson “Samuel” Miles Sowell and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Raley Sowell.

1900 Census Information:

According to the United States census reported on June 11, 1900, Miles Sowell (25), rented a home in Buffalo, Kershaw, South Carolina, with his wife of 6 years, Lizzie Sowell (25). She reported being the mother of 4 children, only 3 were living; Prudence Sowell (6), Williford Sowell (3) and Jesse Sowell (1). Also in the home was his grandmother, Prudence Sowell (75). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. Miles Sowell was a farmer.

1913

On December 27, 1913, Early Phillips (21) and Leanna Sowell (19) were married in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

1920 Census Information:

According to the United States census reported on March 2, 1920, Early Phillips (23), rented a home in Buffalo, Kershaw, South Carolina, with his wife, Prudis Phillips (25), and their children; Easter Mary Phillips (4) and Bridy Mae Phillips (2). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. Early Phillips was a farmer on a general farm.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States census reported on April 10, 1930, Earlie Phillips (34), rented a home in Buffalo, Kershaw, South Carolina, with his wife, Prudy Phillips (33), and their children; Easter Phillips (14), Brittie M Phillips (11), C J Phillips (8) and Jethro Phillips (6). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina, except Earlie Phillips who reported being born in North Carolina. Earlie Phillips was a farmer on a general farm.

1940 Census Information:

According to the United States census reported on April 8, 1940, Early Phillips (45), rented a home in Buffalo, Kershaw, South Carolina, with his wife, Prudie Phillips (44), and their children; Easter Phillips (23), Brightie Mae Phillips (20), C J Phillips (18) and Jethro Phillips (16). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina and lived in the same house on April 1, 1935. Early Phillips was a farmer and Easter Phillips, C J Phillips and Jethro Phillips were laborers on the farm.

1984

Leanna Prudie Sowell Phillips died on July 5, 1984. She was buried at Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Kershaw, Lancaster County, South Carolina. 

2008

On October 3, 2008, Prudie Sowell Phillips was listed as the deceased mother in the obituary of Mrs. Brittie Mae Sowell.

2010

On December 18, 2010, Leanna Sowell Phillips was listed as the deceased mother in the obituary of Easter Phillips McCain.
