Amelia Rose Flaherty

Amelia Rose Flaherty was born January 9, 1895 in Elgin, South Carolina, the daughter of Adolphus K Rose and Roxie Christmas Rose.

1900 Census Information:

According to the United States Census reported on June 1, 1900, Adolphus Rose (36) owned a home in Wateree Township, South Carolina, also in the home was his wife of 8 years, Roxana Rose (28). She reported being the mother of 4 children, all living. Also in the home were their children; Maud C Rose (7), Olive P Rose (5), Boyton K Rose (4) and Eva B Rose (1). It was reported the family members were all born in South Carolina. Adolphus Rose was a farmer.

1910 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recording on April 18, 1910, Adolphus Rose (46) owned a farm in Wateree Township, South Carolina, also in the home was his wife, Roxie Rose (38) who was the mother of 10 children all of whom still survived. They shared their home with children, Maud Rose (17), Amelia Rose (15), Boykin Rose (13), Eva Rose (10), Allice Rose (8), Mamie Rose (6), Lena Rose (4), Norman Rose (3), Lillie Rose (5 months) and Clelly Rose (5 months). It was reported the family members were all born in South Carolina. Adolphus Rose was a farmer on a general farm.

1920 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recording on January 7, 1910, Adolphis K Rose (55) owned a farm in Wateree Township, South Carolina, also in the home was his wife, Roxie Rose (47), and children; Mellia Rose (24), Boykin Rose (23) Eva Rose (20), Allie Rose (18), Mamie Rose (16), Lena Rose (14), Norman Rose (12), Lellie Rose (10), Clelye Rose (10) and Louise Rose (7). It was reported the family members were all born in South Carolina. Adolphis K Rose was a salesman in a grocery store, Mellia Rose was a clerk in a dry goods store, and Boykin Rose was a mail carrier for rural delivery.

1927

On January 10, 1927, Mrs. C. M. Flaherty was listed as a living sister in the obituary of “Mamie I Rose Ross.”

1928

On December 8, 1946, Mrs. C. M. Flaherty was listed as a living daughter in the obituary of Adolphus K Rose.

1982

Funeral services for Mrs. Claude M. Flaherty were held today at Chester Baptist Church, with burial in Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet, N. C.

Mrs. Flaherty, 87, the former Amelia Rose, died Wednesday, August 25, 1982 in John Randolph Nursing Home in Hopewell.

Born in Blaney, S. C., she was a daughter of the late Adolphus K Rose and Roxie Christmas Rose. She was a member of Chester Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Claude M. Flaherty of Chester; six sisters, Mrs. J. Frank Eddleman, Miss Allie Rose, Mrs. Davis Harrison, Mrs. H. M. Murphy and Mrs. B. F. Whaley of Columbia, S. C., and Mrs. Roger Williams of Clearfield, Utah; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
