Officially Good

Gov. Dick Riley gives his gubernatorial smack of approval to the style catfish stew the Kershaw County town of Elgin has been serving at its annual Catfish Stomp for the last several years. On hand for the official opinion, termed “just great,” according to observers, were, from left Pete James, Stomp co-chairman; Elgin Mayor Jim Suggs; arts and crafts chairman; and Ross Boulware, chief cook. The event is scheduled for Dec. 1, and will feature some 600 gallons of stew, cooked in a tomato base with onions and potatoes, at noon at the Blaney School cafeteria (Staff Photo by Doug Gilmore)
