SUMTER – Boykin L. Hornsby, Sr., 60, died Friday, September 17, 1971 in a local hospital.

Mr. Hornsby was born in Elgin, a son of the late Mike Hornsby and Dovie Motley Hornsby. A veteran of World War II, he had been in the produce and used car businesses.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruby Kyzer Hornsby; a son, Boykin L. “Sonny” Hornsby, Jr. of Sumter; four sisters, Mrs. Liza Branham of Elgin, Mrs. Lillian Rabon of Cayce, Mrs. Lizzie Johnston of Aiken and Mrs. Viola Androde of Sandro, Calif.; and three brothers, Edmond Hornsby of Elgin, Otto Hornsby of Columbia and Ellerbee Hornsby of Lugoff.

Funeral services will be today, September 19, 1971 at 2 p.m. in Shelley-Brunson Funeral Home with burial in Boiling Springs Methodist Church cemetery in Lexington County.
