Almeade Thornton Branham

Almeade Thornton Branham was born September 24, 1895, a daughter of James Moultrie Thornton and Elizabeth Bowen Thornton.

1900 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on June 4, 1900, James M Thornton (34) owned a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife of 8 years, Elizabeth Thornton (28). Also in their home were their children; Joseph E Thornton (7), Elatea A Thornton (5) and Catherine Thornton (2). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. James M was a farmer.

1910 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on April 16, 1910, James M Thornton (44) owned a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife of 18 years, Lizzie Thornton (35), it was reported that she was the mother of 6 children, all of whom were still living. Also in the home were their children; Earl Thornton (16), Almede Thornton (13), Kate Thornton (11), James M Thornton (6), Lafayette Thornton (5) and Roy Thornton (2). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. James M was a farmer and Earl was a laborer on the farm.

1920 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on January 6, 1920, Elizabeth Thornton (46) owned a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina. Also in the home were her children; Earl Thornton (27), Almead Thornton (23), James Thornton (19), Fate Thornton (16), Roy Thornton (12), Josephene Thornton (9) and Knolton Thornton (4). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. Elizabeth was a farmer, and Earl, James, Fate and Roy were all farm laborers on the farm.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on April 23, 1930, Elizabeth Thornton (57) owned a home in Wateree, Kershaw, South Carolina. Also in the home was her son, Fate B Thornton (24), and his wife, Alma Thornton (21) and their son Floyd Thornton (3). It was reported that Fate and Alma were married when he was 21 and she was 18. Also in the home was another son of Elizabeth, Knowlton Thornton (14), and her daughter, Almede Branham (29) and son-in-law, Eugene Branham (30). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. Fate B was a farmer and Eugene was a mechanic at an auto garage.

1940 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on April 15, 1940, Eugene Leon Branham (40) owned a home in Blaney, Kershaw, South Carolina, with his wife, Almeda Thornton Branham (43). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina; Eugene was a Truck Driver with the WPA Road Project.

1970

On August 8, 1970, Mrs. Almeade Thornton Branham was listed as the living wife in the obituary of Eugene Branham.

1971

ELGIN – Mrs. Almeade Thornton Branham, 70, widow of Eugene L. Branham, died Thursday, January 28, 1971, in a Camden hospital.

Funeral service will be today, January 29, 1971 at 2 p.m. in Union Baptist Church.

Mrs. Branham was born in Richland County, a daughter of the late James M. Thornton and Elizabeth Bowen Thornton.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Stanley N. Rose of Camden; and three brothers, James M. Thornton of Camden, Fate B. Thornton of Winnsboro and Knowlton Thornton of Charleston.

Kornegay Funeral Home in Camden is in charge.
