Camden (13-0)

Camden’s superb football team posted a record in 1964 that may never be equalled. The Bulldogs of coach Red Lynch marched to the class AA state crown and allowed only one touchdown all season.

Unfortunately for Lynch, all good things must come to an end. The club moves into Class AAA for the first time and only one starter returns from the team that finished No. 1 in the State.

Guard Billy Rhodes is the one returnee and experience at other positions is practically nil. The graduation of 18 seniors depleted the Bulldog camp.

“Our only prospect for 1965 is one of hard work,” says Lynch. “I’d say that our work will be cut out for us.

‘After losing the boys we did, it looks like we’ll have to rebuild. It’ll be a tough job.”

Don Morgan will inherit the quarterback slot vacated by Billy Ammons. Sherrill Williams heads the halfback corps and Memp Ward tops the fullback aggregation.

Rhodes spearheads the line from his guard position. Larry Broadway is the only tackle with any experience and Bobby Geene heads the center.

Joe Stogsdill and Danny Brown both lettered at the end and Andy Davis played enough to earn a letter at guard.

Camden’s 13-0-0 record will be hard to match. But Lynch is looking to the future.

There are only seven seniors on the roster. Look out in 1966.
