1911

Hollie Thomas Hornsby Sr. was born June 1, 1911, Elgin, Kershaw, South Carolina to Willie Thomas Hornsby and Dora Vermel Jackson Hornsby,

1920 Census Information:

Hollie first appears in the 1920 census as a seven year old son, living on the rented farm of his father in household 95.  Also in the home are his mother, brother Wylie Tems Hornsby, and sisters Christine Hazel Hornsby and Vermelle H.

1930 Census Information:

In 1930, according to the census, Hollie is 19 years old, resides  in household 343, a rented farm with his father and mother, brothers, Wiley Tems, Ream C and Amos R and sisters Christine Hazel Hornsby, Mildred Vermelle, Ethel Faye and Gladys Mary. His occupation was listed as a laborer on a farm.

1932

On May 14, 1932, Hollie married Janie Marie Heath Hornsby. View the announcement that was listed in the State newspaper here. 

1940 Census Information:

In 1940, Hollie Hornsby and Janie Marie Heath Hornsby resided with her brother, Ollie Heath who farm was valued at $500.00, in Wateree. Hollis worked for Works Progress Administration as a laborer on road construction.  Janie Marie Heath Hornsby kept house and raised children Luther E Hornsby, who attended school, while, Hollie Thomas Hornsby Jr stayed at home.

1964

Hollie Thomas Hornsby, Sr., 55, died Saturday (November 7, 1964) at his home in Elgin.  His cause of death of congestive heart failure due to myocardial disease, due to diabetes. He was buried in the Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements will be announced by Kornegay Funeral Home. 

Surviving are two sons, Luther E Hornsby and Hollie Thomas Hornsby Jr. of Elgin; four brothers, Amos Hornsby of Lucknow, Reame Hornsby of Lynchburg and Wally Hornsby and William Hornsby of Columbia, and four sisters, Mrs. Fay and Mrs. Gladys Oney of West Columbia, Mrs. Vermille Black of Chester and Mrs. Christine Rose of Elgin.
