$323,727 Sent Out From Motor Funds

Distribution of $323,727 to 248 town and cities as their share of motor transportation funds, collected by the Public Service Commission was announced today by State Treasurer Jeff B. Bates.

No county seat receives more than $5,000 or less than $1,000, as provided by law.

Distribution was made on the basis of the 1960 census;

Among the county seats receiving $5,000 are Columbia, Spartanburg, Sumter, Union, Grangeburg, Newberry, Laurens, Florence, Gaffney, Georgetown, Greenville, Greenwood, Conway, Charleston, Aiken and Anderson.

Lexington received $1,000.

West Columbia’s share is $3,938, and Cayce’s $5,000.

Among others in this are sharing are: Arcadia Lakes, $194; Bethune, $355; Blaney, $202; Cameron, $372; Chapin, $219; Eastover, $438; Forest Acres, $2,360; Irmo, $220 and Ridgeway, $256.

Funds distributed were collected in the first six months of 1961 as license fees for motor vehicles for hire, such as tractor-trailers.

Population figures the 1960 census were issued in the distribution formula.
