Two Stills Destroyed

CAMDEN (Special) — Kershaw County sheriff’s deputies destroyed two liquor stills and made two arrest over the weekend in connection with moonshining operations, Sheriff D. E. Hilton said.

A four-barrel liquor outfit was torn up by Deputies Harvey Coates and Ernest West in the lower section of the county near the Lee County line on Saturday.

The still was unattended at the time and no arrest were made.

Early Monday morning Robert Russ, white, and Furman Smith, Negro were arrested and three 500-gallon capacity vats of mash destroyed in the West Wateree section, just off Highway 601.

The big moonshine outfit was in operation when raided by Deputies Leslie Moak and Clyde Peak.
