James Lindsay Guy was born March 11, 1873 in York County, South Carolina, son of James L. Guy and Louisa Holmes Guy.

On October 3, 1935, Mr. J. L. Guy was listed in the newspaper article “South Carolina Man Marries In Cambridge.

1956

CAMDEN – Funeral services for James Lindsay Guy were to be held at his home at 1900 North Lyttleton Street, at 2 o’clock this afternoon by the Rev. O. Douglas McArn, and the Rev. Stiles B. Lines. Burial was to be in the Old St. David Cemetery at Cheraw at 3:45 o’clock this afternoon.

Mr. Guy, 83, died in the Camden Hospital Wednesday, December 12, 1956. after a long illness. He had been in ill health for some time and was confined to the hospital for three weeks.

He was to receive an agriculture award for Coastal Bermuda grass in York Friday. He had been active in this work for the past several years.

He was born in York County, March 11, 1873, the son of the late James L. Guy and Louisa Holmes Guy. Mr. Guy had been a resident of Camden for the past 54 years and formerly owned the Guy Lumber Company now the Powe Veneer Lumber Company.

He attended Rutherfordton College in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. He was a member of the Bethesda Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Emily Powe Guy, and one son, Edwin Powe Guy, both of Camden; two grandchildren, Mary Lindsay Guy, student at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D. C., and James Lindsay Guy, student at Aiken Preparatory school in Aiken, and a number of nieces and nephews.
