Blaney Opens School Term September 7

School children will meet in the school auditorium at 8:30 Wednesday morning September 7 for the devotional and opening exercises of the fall term, according to an announcement by E. W. Shingler, Blaney School Superintendent.

Lunch will be served at noon and children will remain at school until 1:30 PM lunches have been raise this year to $.20 a day per child, because of a decrease in Federal funds.

Blaney teachers will meet at the school on September 6 for a full day, to receive their supplies and prepare for opening day. School buses will operate on full schedule Wednesday, and will follow the same route as last year with a few additional routes to serve new pupils. Since many of the bus drivers are new, it is important that children be waiting on the side of the road.

The high school program has been completely reorganized this year, with the advice of experts from the University of South Carolina and North Carolina.

Special effort is being made to help those students who have been forced to leave school before receiving their diploma. High school courses are being offered in the morning and afternoons for those who have to work, and yet wish to complete their high school education. School officials hope this addition to the program will provide an important educational service to the community.

At 8 o’clock Friday evening, September 9, the entire Blaney community has been invited to a general “Get Acquainted” meeting in the high school auditorium. School trustees will be present, and superintendent Shingler will introduce new teachers, and outline the school’s work this year.
