1905

Janie M Heath was born June 22, 1905, Elgin, Kershaw, South Carolina – June 21, 1954, Camden).  She was the daughter of Henry Heath and Arabell “Bell” Motley Heath.

1920 Census Information:

Janie first appears on the 1920 census, at the age of 14,  a living on a family owned farm in household 71, with her father, mother, sister Mary Heath, and brothers Logan Heath and Ollie Heath in Wateree.

1930 Census Information:

In 1930,  Janie, now 23,  lived in household 323, with her father, mother, brother, Ollie Heath, sister in law Susie Heath and nephew Logan B Heath. The family owned their farm house in Watree.

1932

On May 14, 1932 Janie Heath married Hollie Thomas Hornsby Sr.. View the announcement that was listed in the State newspaper here. 

1940 Census Information:

In 1940, Hollie Hornsby and Janie Marie Heath Hornsby resided with her brother, Ollie Heath who farm was valued at $500.00, in Wateree. Hollis worked for Works Progress Administration as a laborer on road construction.  Janie Marie Heath Hornsby kept house and raised children Luther E Hornsby, who attended school, while, Hollie Thomas Hornsby Jr stayed at home.

1954

Janie M Hornsby, 48, died at the Camden Hospital at 11 o’clock, Monday (June 18, 1954) night after an illness of three weeks. Her death certificate list the cause of death as Carcinomatosis due to cancer of the stomach. Funeral services were held from the Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church (Blaney) at 11 o’clock Wednesday (June 20, 1954) morning by the Rev. Mr. Hardner and the Rev. A. L. Wood. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The funeral cortege will leave from the residence. 

She was survived by her husband, H. T. Hornsby, Sr., of Blaney; two sons Luther E Hornsby and H. T. Hornsby, Jr., of Blaney; two brothers, Ollie E Heath, and John Heath of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. L. T Branham of Camden and one grandchild, Larry Hornsby of Blaney.
