John David “Jack” Bailey was born July 26, 1882 in Kershaw County, South Carolina, to Walter A Bailey and Helen Cloud Bailey.

On August 12, 1914, J. D. Bailey was listed in the newspaper article “Visitors to Jubilee.”

1952

John David “Jack” Bailey, 70, prominent merchant and farmer of Blaney, died at the Camden Hospital at 2:15 yesterday morning, September 20, 1952 after an illness of one week.  Mr. Bailey was active in all community services and was widely known.

Funeral services were held from the Smyrna Methodist Church at 4 o’clock this afternoon, September 21, 1952, conducted by the Rev. George R Partridge and the Rev. W. D. Davis. Interment will be in the family plot of the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were: J. R. Dinkins, Thruston Goff, Crenshaw Brannon, Louis Dinkins, Gary Goff and Otis Goff.

Honorary pallbearers were S. W. VanLandinham, Russell Mattox, Dr. Robert Cochran, Ed Campbell, Henry Sanders, Leo Rose, Paul Ross, Woodrow Ross, Jack Ross, L. O. Funderburke, Frank Rabon, Gordon Bell, Grady Bell, Charles W. Wooten, Alfred Kennedy, Robert Dinkins, G. P. Monroe, Anderson Goff, Robert Kennedy, Jr., Marion Williams, Henry Carrison, D. W. Roof. All pallbearers will meet at the church at the funeral hour.

Mr. Bailey is survived by one brother, Carl G. Bailey, Staunton, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Annie B Bowen of Blaney, Mrs. Almead Boykin of Lugoff and Mrs. Zoie McEachern of Columbia; four nephews and three nieces.
