Joe Rawl and Fred Meetze Take Honors at Pig Show

Joe Rawl of the Lexington FFA chapter showed the grand champion gilt at the Seventh annual purebred pig show sponsored by the Sears, Roebuck foundation yesterday at the State Fair Grounds. Fred Meetze of the Irmo chapter took top honors in the boar class.

Donald Shealey of the Irmo chapter had the reserve champion gilt with a Berkshire pig. Lee Rawl of Lexington chapter showed the reserved chapion board with a Poland China.

Placing the the Blue award group for gilts were Donald Shealy, Irmo; Joe Rawl, Lexington: Harold Bickley, Chapin; Hammy Moak, Blaney; Douglas Horton, Mt. Pisgah; Lee Rawl, Lexington and Gordon Murcell, Irmo.

In the blue award group for boars were Lu Rawl of Lexington and Fred Meetze of Irmo.

In the fitting and showmanship awards for gilts Lee Rawl of Lexington placed first, Donald Shealy of Irmo second and Gordon Murrell, Irmo, third. In the boar class Lee Rawl of Lexington placed first, Fred Meetze of Irmo, second, Larry Railey, Dentsville, third and W. E. Derrick, Chapin, fourth.

In the chapter exhibit which consists of two gilts and one boar the Lexington chapter placed first. Irmo chapter second, and Dentsville third.

Red awards in the gilt class went to Bobby Fletcher of Baron, De Kalb, Thomas Monts fo Chapin, William Mattox of Blythewood, Vance Jeffcoat of Swansea, Prevost Lorick of Batesburg-Leesville, Robert Bryan of Batesburg-Leesvile, John Wade Vincent of Mt. Pisgah, Franklin Ross of Dentsville, Albarkett Amick of Gilbert, Carl Swygert of Gilbert and Sam Palmer of Dentsville.

Red awards for boars were won by Larry Railey of Dentsville and Stewart hall of Blythewood.
