Kershaw Road Paving Plans Announced

Camden – (Special) – Upon the request of Senator J. Clator Arrants, the state highway department has prepared a statement listing the road sections in Kershaw county which are under construction at the present time, or which have been under construction since January 1, 1951. Also is a list of road construction items included in the current construction program on which work has not as yet been started.

The mileage of the construction project under construction or complete aggregates 37.4 miles while that of work still to be started aggregates 53.7 miles.

The approximates do not include street improvements in the town of Bethune or bridge construction on Roads 48, 49 and 53 from Blaney westerly and northerly to the Richland County Line.

Roads under construction or completed since January 1 include Road 37, from road 5 to Wateree pond, 3.5 miles at a cost of $35,700, Broad Street in Camden, $51,300; Road 76, Chestnut street and Campbell street from Broad street and Campbell street from Broad street to deKalb street in Camden, Distance of one mile, $10,307.03; Road 71, from Road 39, near the Camden city limits easterly to U. S. Route 1, 8-10ths of mile, $10,104.39; Road III from Route 341 to southwestern terminus, .35 mile, $2,600; Road 113, from U. S. Route 1 to northern terminus .25 mile, $1,900; Road 34, Route 118, from end of present pavement to Lynches river, six miles, $49,500; Roads 130 and 35, from U. S. 521 north of Camden to northwestern terminus to Road 35, three miles, $34,900; Road 31, from Route 341 northeasterly to Route 157, four miles, $41,500; Road 94, from U. S. Route 521 northeasterly to Road 93, 2.7 miles, $24,9000, Road 46, from Route 34 east of Camden to Road 12, 1.5 miles, $11,700; Road 22, from Route 34 to the Lee county line, 2.6 miles, $21,900: Road 33, from Route 341 northeasterly to Route 346, four miles, $29,900, and Roads 15 and 43 from Road 34 northerly to Road 42, 5.3 miles, $33,700.

The above enumerated jobs aggregate $386,511.39 in expenditures.

On roads programmed but not as yet placed under construction the expenditure amounts to $407,100 or a grand total on all work projects of $789,611.39.

Roads programmed but as yet not under construction are: Road 79, York street and Mill street from Broad street to DeKalb street on the city of Camden, .8 miles, $8,000; Road 80, Lyttleton street from York street to Rutledge street in the city of Camden, .25 mile $2,500; Road 108, from U. S. Route 1 to northeastern terminus, .6 mile $1,000; Road 114, from Road 18 to Lee county line, 1 mile, $10,000; Road 141, Springdale Loop from Road 35 to its terminus, $5,000; Road 139, from U. S. Route 1 northeast to eastern terminus, .6 $1,000; Road 96 and 142 from U. S. Route 1 to Route 34, .2 mile $2,000; Road 140 from U. S. Route 521 to Bell Mount Church, .3 mile $600; Roads 65, 66, 67 and 144 in Town of Bethune, .75 mile, $5,000; Road 145, from U. S. Route 1 via Midway school to U. S. Route 1, 1 mile $500; Road 100, from U. S. Route 1 east of Camden northerly to Road 71, .6 mile, $6,000; Bridges only on Roads 48, 49 and 53 from Blaney to Richland County line; Road 135, York street extension from Campbell street to U. S. No. 1, 1 mile, $10,000;

Also Road 136 from Road 13 southwest of Kershaw to eastern terminus, .2 mile, $2,000; Road 137 from north eastern terminus of Road 108 northerly to Road 35, 1.8 miles $1,000; Road 72, from Hart street corner to Minor street in Kershaw, .15 mile $1,500; Road 138, from Road 48 at Kershaw to Route 157, .1 mile $1,000; Springdale loop from Road 35 to its terminus, 2 miles, $16,000; Road 93 from Road 12 to Road 94, 1 mile, $7,000; Road 103 from Road 13 to Road 58, 1.8 miles $12,500; Road 58 from U. S. Route 521 northerly to beginning of pavement miles, $150,000; Road 36 and 146 from Road 5 southerly to U. S. Route 1, 6.5 miles, $52,000; Road 59 to Road 20, 5.7 miles $40,000; Road 90 from Route 34 south easterly to a county road intersection, 3 miles, $21,000; Road 91, Road 12 to Road 90, 2.5 miles $17,500, and Road 42, from U. S. Route 1 north easterly to Road 43, 4 miles $28,000.
