Violent Death Comes To 7 In SC Weekend

At least seven persons met violent death in South Carolina over the weekend, five of them from highway accidents, a united Press survey shows today.

Charles. S. Terry, 23, was fatally injured about 12:10 a.m. today when the car he was driving struck the rear of a Navy shore patrol wagon near Charleston.

Ernest Leo Ward, 15 died yesterday morning from injuries received Saturday night when the motorbike he was riding crashed head-on into an automobile.

Mary Lee Pierce of Sumter county was killed in an auto accident near Sumter Saturday. Three others were injured in the same accident.

Traffic accidents also cause the deaths of Collie Peake, 46, of Blaney, whose car crashed near Pontiac, and Samuel L. Bishop, 31, of Greer whose peach truck overturned near Greenville Saturday.

A 19-year-old soldier, Cpl. Olin D. Johnson, was killed late Saturday when lightning struck his home near Cheraw.

And a 25-year-old Woodruff man, Charles Speltz, was found shot to death at his home early Saturday. No inquest is being planned. Officers said Speltz was alone at his home at the time.
