Commission Studies Road Bids Today

The South Carolina Highway commission will approve or reject low bids on five bridge and 17 road construction projects at the regular commission meeting, 11 o’clock this morning in the John C. Calhoun office building.

The bids, open here Tuesday, or as follows:

Dorchester: Widening of a 10-foot concrete bridge over Cattle creek and construction of 102-foot concrete bridge at Polk swap on U. S. Route 78, V. P. Loftis Co., Charlotte, North Carolina, $53,805

Greenville-Pickens: Construction of a 410-foot concrete and steel bridge over Saluda river and a 200-foot concrete bridge over Georges creek on Route 123, McMeekin Construction company, Cheraw, $177,898.

Hampton: Construction of a 300-foot concrete bridge over Coosawhatchie river and .042 miles earth approaches on route 363, Joseph W. Barnwell, Jr., Columbia, $43,218.

Kershaw: Construction of a 280-foot concrete and steel bridge over Seaboard Air Line railroad tracks, .51 miles of graded and asphaltic concrete surfaced approaches and 1.072 mile bituminous surfaced detour near Blaney on U. S. Route 1, Wannamaker and Wells, Inc., Orangeburg, $123,157.
