Broken Rail Is Blamed for Train Wreck at Blaney

A broken rail wrecked the Seaboard Silver Meteor passenger train near Blaney January 2, according to State Public Service Commission officials.

The wreck resulted in the death of two passengers and the injury of 104 passengers, 11 dining car employees, one porter and two train service employes.

The reportĀ  said that theĀ  track involved was inspected 48 hours before the accident and that no defects had been noticed. In addition a detector car operated over the area in October, giving no indication of defective tracks, the report said.
