Fort Jackson Escapees Find Camden a Jinx

Camden, May 14 – (Special) – Camden is proving a baffling frontier to Yank prisoners escaping from work gangs at Fort Jackson. In the past few days six soliders have been captured as they sought to put distance between themselves and Fort Jackson. Saturday morning at 2 o’clock State Officer W. J. Seaborn and Chief of Police Alva Rush of Camden police department rounded up three prisoners near Blaney. Police Officer Dallas Mahoney and Stanley Rose captured two near the Seaboard overhead bridge here while officer Watson of the county constabulary captured three near Blaney. All the prisoners wore regulation prison garb of blue with a large “P” on the back. They were all American soldiers.
