Camden — (Special) – Mrs.C. T Baldwin, Carrison street, was hostess to her bridge club on Wednesday afternoon. High score prizes were won by Mrs. Joseph Brunson and Mrs. DeLoache Sheorn, Mrs. Newell Wimberly was a special guest.

Miss Mary Whitaker celebrated her ninth birthday Saturday with a moving picture party at the Camden theater. Nine of her friends were invited and later entertained at Elliott’s soda shop.

Mary is the daughter of Lieut. and Mrs. C. C. Whitaker Jr., Lyttleton street.

Capt. J. J. Vandiver, commandant of cadets, Sixty-fourth AAFFTD, Southern Aviation school, was honored on his birthday Saturday, May 15, with a surprise supper party given by Mrs. Vandiver at their home on Fair street. Assisting the hostess in entertaining and service were Mrs. A. W. Habeeb, Mrs. M. A. Clay and Mrs. Gertrude Zemp.

Mrs. M. E. Forte received 16 members of the American Legion Auxiliary in her home last Friday afternoon for their May meeting. The nominating committee appointed; Mrs. Jack Mullen, Mrs. Wiley Sheorn, and Mrs. James Gandy. The local unit nominated Mrs. C. M. Proctor of Rock Hill for department president of the Auxiliary for 1943-44.

The 1943 Camden commencement exercises begin Sunday, May 23, at 4 p.m., when the Rev. J. Ross Johnson, district superintendent of the Sumter district of the Methodist Church, will preach the sermon to the graduating class. Graduating exercises will be held May 27, at 9:30 p.m., in the high school auditorium. Ten seniors expected to receive state high school diplomas. Their names are: Lila Mae Branham, Ruby Lois Branham, Bennie Oscar Branham, Willie Mae Branham, Naomi Elizabeth Goff, Margie Carolyn Kirkland, Kenneth Roland McLeod, Oliver Leon Miles, Willie Mae Moore and Rose Ellen Price.
