John Lee Kirkland, 54, well known farmer and lifelong resident of Blaney, died at this residence at 4 p.m., yesterday (November 22, 1942). He had been in declining health for several months.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emily Ross Kirkland; two sons, Paul Kirkland and Herbert Kirkland of Blaney; two daughters, Miss Margie Kirkland of Blaney and Mrs. L. H. Driggers of Columbia; four sisters, Mrs. B. A. Aaron of Columbia, Mrs. W. L. Gulley of Raleigh, N. C., Mrs. A. L. Lybrand of Cayce and Miss Mattie Lee Kirkland of Columbia; two brothers, E. M. Kirkland, and J. H. Kirkland of Columbia; and his stepmother, Mrs. J. L. Kirkland of Columbia; also three grandchildren.
Funeral was held at 4 o’clock November 23, 1942 from the graveside in the family cemetery near Blaney, conducted by the Rev. Carl Benton of West Columbia.
Active pallbearers wer to be C. W. Wooten, Leslie Moak, B. K. Rose, E. T. Bowen, J. D. Watson and Ira Goff.
Honorary pallbearers were to be: Sheriff J. H. McLeod, H. R. Tiller, J. T. Ross, S. W. Rose, B. T. DeLoach, S. W. VanLangingham, George Mickle, Dr. W. D. Grigsby, U. N. Myers, Dr. Marion Wyman.
