Dr. R. C. Campbell, pastor of the First Baptist church, will deliver the commencement address at the South Carolina State hospital school of nursing graduating exercises to be held Friday night at 8 o’clock.
Christie Benet, chairman of the board of regents, will award diplomas to the eight members of the graduating class. Miss Beulah L. Gardner, superintendent of nurses, will repeat the Florence Nightingale pledge of nurses.
Graduation from the three year training course follows one year affiliation with the Roper hospital school of nursing, Charleston. Certificates of completion from that institution will be awarded the class in Roper hospital ceremonies on June 4 and the students will return here the following night to receive their diplomas.
Members of the graduation class are; Jane Inez Mason of Blaney, presidents; Naomi McMillan of Saluda, vice president; Sheldonia Barfield of Leesville, secretary and treasurer; Myrtle James Beheler of Blackburg; Ruth Hazel Martin of Calhoun Falls; Clara Margaret Mullinax of Greenville; Nelle Rhae Stockman of Chapin, and Leila Mae Wicker of Newberry.
Dr. C. Fred Williams, superintendent of the hospital, will preside over the exercises. Following the graduation march, the Rev. J. O. Kempson, hospital Chaplin, will open the ceremonies with invocation. Doctor Campbell will then deliver the address after which time music will be rendered by the ensemble of the hospital orchestra. Playing will be Miss Divella Ehrenwerth, violin; Alar Taylors, cello; Mrs. R. A. Milam, piano; and B. A. Gardner, clarinet. Diplomas will then be presented.
Music will be furnished by Ben A Gardner and the hospital orchestra.
