State Hospital Will Graduate 13 on Friday

Thirteen seniors of the school of nursing of South Carolina State hospital will be graduated at exercises at 8 o’clock Friday night in the hospital auditorium.

The address to the graduating class will be made by the Rev. J. O. Smith, pastor of Washington Street Methodist church.

Music will be offered by the hospital orchestra under direction of Ben A. Gardner, and there will be two violin solos by Adrian Hallman.

The class will be led in the Florence Nightingale pledge by Miss Beulah L. Gardner, superintendent of nurses, Dr. C. F. William, hospital superintendent, will be preside. The invocation and benediction will be by the Rev. J. O. Kempson, hospital chaplain.

Diplomas will be presented by Christie Benet, chairman of the hospital board of regents, to the following;

Olive Margaret Frey, Fairforest; Frances Angelina Geer, Converse; Carrie Grace Grubbs, Blackville; Willie Blanche Horton, Cassatt; Thelma Mavis Hutto Gaston; Sunie Mae Johnson, Goldville; Elizabeth Kieth, Blaney.

Also, Annie Mae Lawhon, Timmonsville; Ethel Anita Lybrand, Wagener; Mary Lee Meetze, Lexington; Jennie Lou Morgan, Edgefield; Mary Elizabeth Rutherford Salley, and Essie Mae Smith Smoaks.

On Thursday night the class will receive from Roper hospital, Charleston, certificates for completion of one year’s affiliation course there. This follows two years in the school of nursing at South Carolina State hospital.

The exercises will be followed by a reception at the Mills building.
