307 Persons Attend Rally Of Baptists

The Fairfield Baptist association held its general quarterly gathering yesterday afternoon at the Colonial Heights Baptist Church with an attendance of 307 persons reported from churches in Richland, Fairfield and Lexington counties.

The attendance honors went to the Stephen Green Memorial church of Winnsboro, which had 104 representatives in attendance.

That church was well represented recently at the associational meeting held at First church at Winnsboro.

W. B. Jones, associational director, was in charge of yesterday’s gathering. The Rev. A. L. Sanders of Colonial Heights church was host pastor.

In the better speakers’ contest, Miss Roxie Belle Parker of First church, Columbia, took honors and Mr. Wingate of Southside church, Columbia, was second. In the intermediate sword drill, Miss Mary Duke McLeod of Eau Claire church was first and Miss Helen Johnston of Park Street church, second, and Richard Lowery of Park Street church was first among the juniors.

They will represent the association at the school of religious education at Hartsville, now in session and take part in the state contest, July 4-5.

The next associational general meeting will be held September 29 at Blaney.
