James Wiley Wood was born May 12, 1857 in Abbeville, South Carolina, son of Mason Davis Wood and Rebecca Conner.

According to the United States Census reported on September 17, 1860, M D Wood (41), lived in Edgefield, South Carolina with, Rebecca C Wood (34), Wm H Wood (10), Mary J Wood (8), James W Wood (3) and Infant Wood (8 months). M D Wood was a farmer.

1870 Census Information:

According to the United States Census reported on August 13, 1870, Morgan D Wood (52) lived in Kershaw County, South Carolina with, Sarah Wood (23), Wilhous Wood (20), Mary J Wood (17), James Wood (13), Sally Wood (10) and Matlida Wood (1). All family members reported having been born in South Carolina. Morgan D Wood and Wilhous Wood were farmers.

1930

James W. Wood was counted in the census on 28 Apr 1930 in Wateree, Kershaw, South Carolina, USA, as a 72-year-old, male, married, white, head of house hold. Also in the home was his wife, Lillie V Wood; and adopted daughters; Beulah M Spradley and Francis R Davis.

1940

James Wiley Wood, 82, died at his home four miles north of Blaney at 9:05 last night, January 27, 1940, after an illness of three years.

Mr. Wood, a lifelong resident of his community, was a faithful member of Union Baptist church of Blaney.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillie V Wood; three daughters, Mrs. Janie Mason and Mrs. T. C. Carnell of Columbia and Mrs. C. A. Mason of Bishopville; two sons, B. M. Wood and John W. Wood, both of Blaney; one sister, Mrs. Sallie Nichols, of Columbia; one half sister, Mrs. M. S. Blackmon, of Lynchburg, and one half brother, M. D. Wood, of Bishopville.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, January 29, 1940 from Union Baptist church by the Rev. Mr. Moore, pastor. Interment will be in the churchyard.

On January 28, 1940, James Wiley Wood was listed in the newspaper article “Deaths.”
