According to the US Census recorded on January 28, 1920, Joe Nettles (46), rented a home in Wateree, Kershaw, South Carolina with his wife, Rebecca Nettles (46); and their children; Alma Nettles (11), Emily Nettles (8), Williemae Nettles (5) and George R. Nettles (1). It was reported the family members were all born in South Carolina.Joe Nettles was a farmer on a general farm, Rebecca was a farm laborer.

1930 Census Information:

According to the US Census recorded on April 7, 1930, Joseph Nettles (57), rented a home in Wateree, Kershaw, South Carolina with his wife, Rebecca Nettles (55) and his children; Willie M Nettles (16), Vernon Nettles (11), and Irby Nettles (8). It was reported the family members were all born in South Carolina. Joe Nettles was a farmer on a general farm.

1939

CAMDEN, October 5. – Joseph Nettles, 68-year-old farmer of Lugoff, died at 11 o’clock last night at the Camden hospital after an illness of two weeks.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock at Pine Grove baptist church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mae Nettles (who was formerly Miss May Rimer), Lugoff; two sons, George Nettles, Winnsboro, and Irby Nettles, Lugoff; three daughters, Mrs. Ansel Goff, Charleston; Mrs. Leslie Kirkland, Lugoff, and Mrs. C. W. Wooten, Blaney.
