Car Damaged Child Unhurt

Prompt action on the part of Matthew Wingard, 20, of Jefferson Davis drive, probably saved the life of an 11-year-old school boy, in the 220 block of Two-Notch road, Friday afternoon.

The boy, Dale Branham, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Branham of Chestnut street, Edgewood district, backed away from the path of one automobile in front of a coupe driven by young Wingard.

Mr. Wingard drove his car from the road, narrowly missed two telephone poles and a tree and crashed into the new concrete steps in front of the Edgewood Methodist church. The car was damaged and one portion of the concrete was hurled 21 feet.

Neither Mr. Wingard, nor his mother, Mrs. Quincy Wingard, who was with him at the time was injured.
