Around the Sport Clock

Softball Is Popular

Softball, the old time indoor baseball, is growing in popularity. The league in Columbia is going at a fast clip with six teams participating and at the Blaney high school in Kershaw county, the game is proving interesting for the students during the recess hour.

Willie Cromer, graduate of the Brookland – Cayce high school and the University of South Carolina, who is a member of the faculty at Blaney, tell us that there are two leagues formed among the school students.

One league is for girls and the other for boys. Four teams are in each league and games are played only during the recess hour.

According to brother Cromer the schedule is divided into a split season, organization – has been set up in each league just as an official baseball league.

This tends to give the pupils a form of recreation during the time off from classes and also a form of exercise which could not be given otherwise.

Softball is very inexpensive, only one ball and one bat is necessary for each game. No other equipment is needed. The pupils of the Kershaw county school are showing a great interest in the games and according to our information from the institution, the contests will run into the winter there.
