Couple in Hartsville Observe Golden Wedding

Rock Hill, S. C., September 9 – Mr. and Mrs. William Joseph Byrd, of Hartsville, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Monday, September 1. They enjoyed a picnic dinner with your children, grandchildren and a few friends.

The large oaks in front of the Byrd’s home furnished a lovely setting for a reception in the late afternoon. A perfusion of goldenrod another autumn flowers made the outdoor living room beautiful.

The guest were met by Mrs. P. H. Rawls and Mrs. B. K. Rose. Receiving with Mr. and Mrs. Byrd were Mrs. Anna Williamson and Mrs. G. W. Powe, members of the bridal party of fifty years ago. Mrs. Jasper Byrd invited the guests to the punch bowl. Mrs. D. L. Byrd poured punch, and Miss Anna Mae Byrd served cakes. Little Miss Helen Rawls, of Rock Hill, served mints during the afternoon.

With Mrs. John J. Byrd at the piano, Mrs. G. W. McLeod playing the violin, and Mr. and Mrs. K. A. Byrd singing, many old familiar songs were enjoyed.

Mr. and Mrs. Byrd were born and reared near where they now live, in the Antioch section as few miles from Hartsville. They have six children living to celebrate the occasion with them. They are: Mrs. R. D. Byrd, of Hartsville, Mrs. P. H. Rawls, of Rock Hill, and Mrs. B. K. Rose, of Blaney and John J. Byrd, of Rockingham, North Carolina, Lucas M. Byrd and Jasper L. Byrd, of Hartsville. They have seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
