Blaney, June 4 – This has been a week of picnics and parties for the younger children. Friday afternoon Miss Maude Derrick entertained the younger children. Friday afternoon Miss Maude Derrick entertained the sixth and seventh grades with a picnic at Nelson’s pond. Miss Derrick was assisted by Miss Myra Pettigrew. At Perry’s pond Miss Connie Lee Andrea gave a wiener roast for the fifth grade pupils Friday. Saturday Miss Charlotte Ross entertained her Sunday school class with a picnic at Heath’s pond. Thursday Mrs. A. T. Simpson and Miss Willie May Andread gave a party for the first and second grades.
Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Ross gave a farewell party in honor of the high school faculty and the seniors. As the guest arrived they were met at the door by Miss Clara Motley and Florrie Mae Ross and invited into the living room, which was prettily decorated with cut flowers. Each couple was given a sheet of paper and a pencil and asked to write a title for a story after progressive changes were made by the boys and at each chance a new sentence was written until each boy was back with his first partner when the conclusion was written. The stories were then read with much merriment and a prize given for the best story. Cake and block cream were served by two little daughters of the hostess, Stella Ross and Corrie Ross assisted by Miss Pearl Sanders.
Thursday evening Leonardo Andrea gave a delightful party for the eight grade at the home of his mother, Mrs. C. S. Andrea. Twenty-four jolly boys and girls gathered in the spacious living room, where several games and contests were enjoyed. A sweet course was served by Miss Iola Goff and Miss Dida Abbott. A feature of the evening was a fortune contest and the best looking girl and the ugliest boy were selected.
Miss Nell Evans a student at Cistcora, is at home for the summer vacation.
Miss Martha Ray Shiver of Rock Hill is the guest this week of Miss Cleo Evans and Miss Beatrice Ross.
Dr. Rufus Ford of Marion, who is to preach the sermon to the school Sunday, is the guest of the Rev. and Mrs. Davis Harrelson.
The graduating exercises for the 11th grade of the high school will be held Monday evening, at which time, Dr. J. Caldwell Guilds of Columbia college will deliver the address.
