Jeffers Is Held On Murder Charge

CAMDEN, S. C., Sept 16. – Elmore Jeffers, who is alleged to have shot and killed Peter Kirkland at Blaney Tuesday evening just after the primary election polls had closed. He was brought to Camden and placed in jail to await his trial. The trouble grew out of the race for magistrate of Blaney. In the first primary one of the candidates was eliminated. The second race was between Donald Watson who was successful and Thomas C. Jeffers, borther of Elmore Jeffers.

Some losse charges it is alleged were made about attempting to buy votes and a fight followed. Later it was renewed when Jeffers is said to have drawn his pistol and shot Kirkland to death. An inquest was held by Coroner W. F. Russ, 11 and the jury held Jeffers for the killing.
