James E. Creed

James E Creed was born on 14 Feb 1867.

Cantey, August 7. – People here were shocked Monday morning, August 4, 1919, to learn that J. E. Creed had died during the night of heart trouble. Funeral services were conducted at Flint Hill Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 1919, by the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Byrd, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Truluck and the Rev. Mr. Neal of Kershaw.

Possibly the largest crowd ever gathered at Flint Hill was there to pay the last respect to this good man. For he was known throughout the county and had a genial, jovial manner that made him friends wherever he was known.

He was a very active member of Flint Hill church and had served for many years as clerk. He was a deacon and also was superintendent of the Sunday school.

Mr. Creed was married three times and leaves a widow who was Miss Maude Ogburn and the following children; Mrs. J. C. Rose, George Creed and Dewey Creed of Camden, Mrs. Charles McKenzie of Florence, and Misses Selma Creed, Connie Creed and little Dorothy Creed, all of Cantey.

Many beautiful flowers were sent to show the love and sympathy felt for the family, and to testify to the esteem in which Mr. Creed was held.
